We all spent some quality time out in the patio this afternoon: Charlotte daydreamed, Max munched away at the unlimited salad bar, and Blackie poured over blueprints for building a private tunnel to freedom.

It’s amazing to me that once upon a time, both Max and Blackie could be trusted to sit on the front stoop with me in our unfenced front yard back in Denver, and never once made a break for it.

Times change, apparently!
Charlotte, who has always lived here in Barrington, loves the idea of a solo jaunt herself now and then, and will, like Blackie, pull a Houdini over (or under) the fence from time to time. However, once she’s in the greater outdoors, she tends to get spooked pretty quickly—as shown in this breakfast table doodle from last summer.

All this talk about breaking free of fences is making me think how swell it would be to just play hooky tomorrow, blow off the studio, and go to an afternoon matinee. (Sounds pretty tempting, doesn’t it?)
Happy Thursday Night, and have a wonderful Friday, however you spend it!
