I am just about to hit the trail for a week-long trip, but before I do, I wanted to give a shout-out to my sister Carol:<\/p>\n

Happy Birthday, Sis!<\/h1>\n

\"HappyAs much as Charlotte loves her Aunt Carol, she\u2019s not super thrilled about this\u2014nor is she very happy with me<\/em> right now:\u00a0Not only did I just wrap a pretty little gift and put someone else\u2019s<\/em> name on it, I\u2019m also posting a single, simple, black and white cat doodle today \u2014versus giving her the full Hollywood star treatment she deserves. (Not to mention, I\u2019m posting some old\u00a0photos<\/em>, instead. Egad!)<\/p>\n

Sorry Charlotte! As it\u2019s\u00a0Carol\u2019s birthday, I wanted to post something on here today that I thought she might enjoy even more than a cat doodle\u2014i.e., some \u201cbirthday monkey business\u201d\u00a0by our mom Priscilla, from a bunch of years ago.<\/p>\n

In the photos below you can see Mom\u2019s hand drawn Give-the-Dog-a-Bone game (ala Pin the Tail on the Donkey), and a similar game where features (nose, eye, lips) were stuck to a half-empty portrait she drew of the Queen of Hearts, resulting in some giggle-inducing, Picassoesque faces. (The beautiful little birthday girl with the braids is Carol, of course.)<\/p>\n

The wonderful hat box birthday cake centerpiece was inspired by one of Mom\u2019s \u201cgo to\u201d books, the McCall\u2019s Golden Giant Make-it Book<\/a>\u00a0mentioned in an early post<\/a>\u00a0(see below illustration from the 1953 edition).\u00a0Each little girl guest (including me, with the cropped \u2019do in the foreground) had a big paper daisy at her place setting with her name on it, attached to a ribbon, attached to a party favor inside.<\/p>\n

\"Make-It<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been to lots of parties over the years, but it\u2019s hard to beat this one for sheer fun\u2014even though it wasn\u2019t me who was being celebrated that day. (Hmm…Are you listening, Charlotte?)<\/p>\n

Dear Carol, I hope you have a wonderful birthday, and feel all your friends\u2019 and family\u2019s love around you today, including Mom\u2019s. Very tough losing her (2 years tomorrow), but so wonderful we got to share her all those years. Lots of love to you. I\u2019m so very glad we\u2019re sisters.<\/p>\n
