I\u2019ve been beating the heat by staying indoors, sticking close to the computer, and<\/em> the a\/c. \u2014Which isn\u2019t great for my Vitamin D deficiency, but is excellent for getting things done. Just for fun, here\u2019s some of what I\u2019ve been working on since I last reported in.<\/p>\n Below is an editorial spot for School Library Journal on how librarians use Pinterest<\/a>, \u201ca virtual pinboard\u201d that lets you \u201corganize and share all the beautiful [and in this case useful] things you find on the web.\u201d<\/p>\n I\u2019ve also had fun creating more faux New Yorker covers for the weekly Blown Covers Contest\u2014for me a welcome opportunity to try out new ideas, different approaches, and take part in a creative challenge alongside my peers. Last week, when the theme was New York Fall Fashion, these were two of the designs I submitted\u2014at left, a fashionable woman blended with a cityscape; on the right, a mannequin \u201cdressed\u201d by a gust of fall leaves.<\/p>\n This week the theme was Food\u2014with a NYC slant\u2014which I enjoyed even more, I think. Here are two of my more cartoony ideas\u2014exotic produce presented to discriminating, well-heeled shoppers at left, and \u201cfood on the brain\u201d at right.<\/p>\n You can check out everyone else\u2019s submissions on the Blown Covers website<\/a>, including this week\u2019s terrific runners-up and winner. \u00a0But do browse through the slush pile<\/a>,\u00a0too, if you have time. There\u2019s an especially rich collection of gems in there this week\u2014some beautiful designs from artists like Kim Murton<\/a> and Nina Berkson, some clever concepts by one of my favorite regular contributors, Brazilian illustrator and designer Daniel Kondo (who also had an excellent \u00a0runner-up<\/a>\u00a0chosen from his entries this week), and some wickedly funny (even twisted) drawings by Chris Greco, Otto Zaiser, and others. \u2014All making the slush pile\u2014where you\u2019ll also find 3 more of my drawings\u2014a pretty fine place to be!<\/p>\n Hope everyone had an excellent week and is looking forward to a weekend full of fun, relaxation, and good weather, too.
